"I ask myself, in mercy, or in common sense, if we cannot alter the conviction to fit the body, should we not in certain circumstances, alter the body to fit the conviction?" -- Dr. Harry Benjamin, M.D

About Us

Since early 2006, TransOhio has been providing workshops, events and education to the Central Ohio GLBTQI and ally community.

TransOhio has provided:
  • numerous referrals and support for transgender and gender questioning Central Ohio individuals and their families.
  • published a consecutive monthly newsletter since October 2006.
  • held their first annual TransOhio Unity Picnic in June 2007 to coincide with Pride month.
  • sponsored (2) 6 week self-defense workshops targeted for the GLBTQI community.
  • provided transgender identified speakers to various Columbus area universities and organizations.
  • published an informational pamphlet called Transgender 101.

TransOhio was formed from the experiences of Shane Morgan, a transgender Central Ohio resident. Shane wanted to share with others his passion for education, community, mentoring and leadership. In early 2007, Shane began to share his vision, with Karla Rothan (Executive Director of Stonewall Columbus) and Meral Crane (Director and Founder of the Gender Dysphoria Program of Central Ohio) of an organization whose primary focus would allow Ohio transgender people to have a better life by providing easy access to services, programs, education and information.

From his experience and vision, TransOhio was born.
