Hello TransOhio Family, Friends and Supporters!

The December 2009 issue of the TransOhio newsletter is now available!

Our TG support group meeting will be held tonight Wednesday, December 2nd at 7pm at The Center on High, and our monthly general meeting on Sunday, December 20, 3pm.

The next TransOhio Partners’ Discussion Group will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 2pm in Columbus at The Center on High (1160 N. High Street, Columbus, 43201).

There are tons of events & activities happening in December, so, make sure you take a look at the calendar and the other events noted throughout the newsletter!

Transgender Day of Remembrance to be Observed Around Ohio

Next week, all over the world, communities will be holding vigils to remember those from our community who’ve been taken from us because of transphobia and hatred. Transgender Day of Remembrance events will be held in Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland. Please plan to attend one of these vigils.

Join us in observance of National Transgender Day of Remembrance. Throughout the world, people gather this day every year to pay respect to those needlessly killed by hate crimes against the transgender community, and to call attention to the threat of violence faced by gender-variant people.

The program includes a service of musical selections and reflections from the community, ending with a candlelight vigil to honor those who have been victims of violence. Give Your LGBT Clients the Help They Deserve

This conference is designed for service providers, organizational staff, clergy and others seeking to enhance their personal or organizational capacity to serve LGBT people.

The conference will explore how LGBT clients are affected by violence and  ways that agencies and individuals can most effectively advocate for and provide services to LGBT people.

The faculty for the conference are local, state and national experts in the field and will share insights, best practices and materials with attendees that will both enhance service provision, and teach appropriate assessment tools with regard to safety for LGBT people and violence survivors.
