AIDS Clinical Trials Research Site at Case Western Reserve/University Hospitals in Cleveland

Recently, an HIV vaccine trial in Cleveland has opened enrolling gay men and transgender women who have sex with men.  The AIDS Clinical Trials Research Site is located at Case Western Reserve/University Hospitals in Cleveland.

They are particularly interested in reaching out to the transgender community, both for the community’s understanding of the HIV vaccine trial, as well as for recruitment purposes.

Summit Methodist Church to Host Riveting Play: Survival of The Boulevard Singer

A Survival of The Boulevard SingerMark your calendars for Sunday, October 10, 2010 @ 3pm as Summit on 16th Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio will host Survival of The Boulevard Singer a riveting play about the struggle of a family immersed in their church culture and struggling with their relationship with their brother/son who is HIV+.

Both written and performed by Debra James Tucker, you are sure to be moved by the talent of this Ohio Arts Council Award Recipient for Individual Excellence.

Please come out and celebrate in one of the many events going on in our city during National Coming Out month.

As with all of events the suggested donation should not deter your attendance. It is not a requirement! Your presences is what we value most –so more if you can, and none if that is what you need to do to attend.

Even though African Americans account for only 13% of the U.S. population, they account for nearly half (49%) of people who contract HIV/AIDS.  Approximately 60 million people worldwide have been infected with HIV, and over 20 million have already died from this disease.  Please join us on this journey to educate and equip African Americans with the knowledge and support to prevent and battle this deadly disease.

ARTCARES – Call for Artwork!

Ever since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, artists and art communities in New York and San Francisco have offered different kinds of encouraging support to the fight against HIV/AIDS. ArtCares, the signature event benefiting the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland is our version of that rich tradition.

Preparations for this highly anticipated event are underway, and we would like to extend the opportunity for you to become involved. Taking place at Saigon Plaza, located in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood on Saturday April 17, 2010, ArtCares will feature silent and live auctions. All proceeds raised will directly support the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland and our mission to provide a compassionate and collaborative response to the needs of people infected, affected and at risk of HIV/AIDS.

We are currently seeking donations of artwork in all media: photography, painting, sculpture, glass, metalwork, and jewelry.

In addition to benefiting the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland and our leadership in prevention, education, supportive services and advocacy, there are also some exciting advantages to your participation and donation of artwork. These include:

  • Two complementary tickets to enjoy the gala event
  • Acknowledgment of your name, and the title and description of your art on display near the piece
  • Acknowledgment of your name, the title and description of your art, as well as a personal statement and contact information, to be included in the event program

Call for Submissions: Something on the Inside

Something on the Inside is a creative project that seeks to inspire advocacy and raise awareness regarding the increasing impact of HIV/AIDS on the lives of women and girls.

Female artists are needed to submit original works of art that speak to the impact of HIV/AIDS on the lives of women and girls.

Artwork will be on display at Travonna Coffee House (Columbus, Ohio) for the month of March, in recognition of National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

An opening reception will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 along with a performance by Tracy Walker (tracywalker.com). The purpose of the event will be to increase awareness, and raise funds for the Ohio AIDS Coalition.
