2009 has been a busy year for TransOhio. It never ceases to amaze us how fast time flies and how much can happen within 12 months.
Here’s a quick overview of some of the work TransOhio has done as an organization and the work the TransOhio board has done individually:

In 2009, TransOhio…
- received over 300 calls to our office for resources, support and information
- distributed over 8,000 copies of our Transgender 101 publication
- published another year of our monthly TransOhio newsletter
- tabled at the Columbus and Cincinnati Pride events
- hosted “Blurring the Lines of Gender” art work by Briden Cole Schueren
- hosted the 2nd Annual TransOhio Transgender & Ally Symposium (Keynote Speaker, Helen Boyd)
- hosted Fabulously Fluid: A Evening of Performance, Music, Comedy and Spoken Word
- sponsored and had attendance at Equality Ohio’s Lobby for Equality Day
- sponsored and had attendance at the Candidates Night for the Central Ohio GLBT Community
- hosted the 3rd Annual Unity Picnic in June
- hosted the 3rd Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner
- hosted the 3rd Annual Christmas Day Gathering
- hosted the 11th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance in Columbus
- joined as a member organization of the Equality Federation
- sponsored a TransOhio booth at Ohio Lesbian Festival
- facilitated the weekly TransFusion group at Kaleidoscope Youth Center
- particpated in a Fireside Chat with Ohio’s First Lady, Francis Strickland
- hosted the Midsummer (and Midwinter) Night’s ‘T’: Transgender Panel for Community Leaders
- worked with Equality Ohio and Central Ohio transgender advocates to create a state-wide policy “Declaration of Gender Change” for the Ohio BMV
- hosted monthly support groups & meetings
- took a field trip to The Apothecary Shops to see how testosterone and forms of estrogen are compounded
- started a new program: Partners’ Discussion Group facilitated by Sarah, Ellen and Ariel

- attended 2009 NCAVP Regional Training Academy

- presented “Why Diversity Matters to AFSCMEA – Diversity awareness and application: The Gender Continuum“ to AFL-CIO / AFSCME Ohio Council 8
- provided written Proponent Testimony for Ohio legislators in support of (EHEA) Equal Housing and Employment Act (H.B. 176)
- provided proponent testimony for Columbus City Council and Civil Rights Commission for adding “gender identity and expression” to Columbus Civil Rights Code
- attended and spoke at state-wide screenings of Call Me Malcom
- wrote “Chaz Bono’s Transition: How Can You Be an Ally to Transgender People?” for DiversityInc.com
- continued UnitedENDA Committee work
- joined the Equality Ohio Public Policy Committee as a committee member
- joined the United Way of Central Ohio Affinity Steering Committee as a committee member
- spoke about being transgender and a resident of Ohio at the TransOhio Fireside Chat with the First Lady of Ohio, Francis Strickland
