Join us for a powerful weekend of connection, learning, and healing at the 17th Annual TransOhio Trans & Ally Symposium, this year held at Heart of Northside in Cincinnati, Ohio. This year’s theme, Across Generations, centers the lived experience and knowledge of all trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse people regardless of age, and seeks to create space for connecting with each other and finding unapologetic joy.

As we mark 21 years of TransOhio, we’ll celebrate our past, build community in the present, and dream boldly for our future. The Symposium will feature workshops, panels, healing spaces, resources, and programming appropriate for all ages. Whether you’re a longtime advocate or newly exploring your identity, there’s a place for you here.

The TransOhio Trans & Ally Symposium began as a one-day event in 2008, attended by approximately 80 people. Now in its 17th year, the Symposium has since grown to be a multi-day conference with 300+ participants, 75+ workshops, and various continuing education credits for qualifying professionals. We cannot wait to meet you or see you again!

This year we are offering 4 unique tracks, and all sessions will be marked with age ratings for accessibility. Attendees are welcome to move between tracks, however some sessions will have limited space or be limited by age/identity. During ticket purchase please indicate the one track you most want to engage with so that we can approximate headcounts:

• All Ages Community Programing Track (Saturday and Sunday)

  • A full 2 days of programming for community by community for the range of experiences and needs we represent; workshops, panels, healing spaces, and resources.

  • Entertainment, Free Closet, Free Legal Clinic, Free WPATH Letter Clinic, Quiet space, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, and More!

  • Virtual Option Available

• 24 and Under Youth Track (Saturday and Sunday) 

  • Sessions will be led mostly by trans people under the age of 25. Some sessions will be markers for minors specifically and those will all be on Saturday.) 

  • A full 2 days of programming for community by community for the range of experiences and needs we represent; workshops, panels, healing spaces, and resources.

  • Entertainment, Free Closet, Free Legal Clinic, Free WPATH Letter Clinic, Quiet space, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, and More!

• Interfaith Track (Saturday)

  • Sponsored by LoveBoldy, sessions will create space for trans people and allies from all faith and spiritual practices, in addition to those who are atheist, agnostic, and healing from religious trauma. 

  • Virtual Option Available

• Providers Track (Sunday)

  • A full day of programming to help providers across practice areas better serve trans and gender nonconforming communities.

  • CEUs available for social workers

  • Open to community members too!

Target Audience:

1. Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Medical Assistants, other Medical Professionals, and Students interested in expanding their practical knowledge in treating transgender and gender diverse patients; 

2. Attorneys, Paralegals, other Legal Professionals, and Law Students interested in expanding their practical knowledge in advocating for transgender and gender diverse clients; 

3. Social Workers, Therapists, Guidance Counselors interested in expanding their practical knowledge in caring for transgender and gender diverse clients; 

4. Teachers and other Educators interested in expanding their practical knowledge in supporting transgender and gender diverse students; and 

5. Other Providers or Community Advocates who wish to deepen their understanding of the complex issues facing the greater transgender communities.

Objectives:

• Develop a foundational knowledge about gender diversity, including appropriate communication specific to transgender persons; identifying, and avoiding distressing features of the setting; understand barriers to and disparities within the community;

• Understand, appreciate, and learn to provide high quality medical, social, and behavioral health or legal services to transgender and gender diverse communities;

• Become familiar with the social and financial resources that enable efficient and effective health care to transgender and gender diverse populations; and

• Develop working knowledge of the resources and options for transgender and gender people and their families.

6. Those wishing to expand their knowledge about issues affecting the trans community here in Ohio and elsewhere.  

7. People from those groups who are religious, spiritual, atheist, agnostic, interested in transgender history, community members, and faith leaders

Possible workshop topics include:

• Interfaith discussions

• Narrative story sharing

• History

• Community support
