Information regarding the 2018 TransOhio Transgender and Ally Symposium is now open as a page devoted to the same is now available on our website. Click on the link above to the 2018 Symposium and there you will find current information including forms for for submission of topics and workshop proposals all of which is due by February 23, 2018. Additionally, sponsorship packets are also available and more information on the 2018 Symposium as it becomes available will be published on that page.
As we move through December and the holidays it is time to get ready for the 2018 10th Annual TransOhio Transgender and Ally Symposium. This year will be special one as we celebrate our Tenth Anniversary which special activities during the three day conference which take place at the OSU Union from April 27-29th. Last we had over 250 people in attendance and 85 workshops for community members, allies, family, and a host of professionals who serve the community. We will have continuing education credits available for social workers, counselors, therapists, nurses, physicians and attorneys.
Sponsorship packets for vendors, advertisers and sponsors will go out towards the end of the month along with Request for Workshop Proposals for presenters. Registration for the Symposium will open in mid to late February 2018.
The host hotel for the Symposium will again the Hampton inn and Suites by Hilton. Call 614-268-8700 and make your reservations in the TOA room block. Rooms are subject to release by 3/20/18.
The Theme for the 2018 TransOhio Transgender and Ally Symposium is Ten Years of Progress and The Challenges Ahead.
Over the next few weeks we will also be announcing key presenters and speakers for the Symposium. We look forward to seeing everyone in April!
November and early December is a busy time for TransOhio and the transgender and LGBTQ community. This post will serve to update you on all the events and activities.
Saturday, November 4th – Noon – 3:00 PM– TransOhio Job, Health and Professional Development Fair at Columbus Public Health, 240 Parsons Ave, Columbus, OH 4321. Parking in rear and bus routes are close by as well. You can network with employers, get health screenings, pick up tips on professional development and pick up some professional clothing which had been graciously donated to stock up your wardrobe for work and interviews. A light lunch and snacks are available for participates and organizations.
Tuesday, November 7th – VOTE! Local elections are being held and your vote matters on county and city officials as well as several state-wide ballot issues which could impact the LGBTQ community.
Also on Tuesday at Noon on Tuesday, BQIC is doing a march and petition drop (to drop off the all the petitions signed by individuals over the past many months at meetings and functions and online to the city and county prosecutors to drop the charges stemming from the protest at Stonewall Columbus Pride parade in June against the Black Pride 4. The march will commence at the City’s Prosecutor’s office at 77 N. Front St. and proceed to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s office at 375 High St.) Please attend to show support if able and if for some reason you have not signed the petitions, please go to the link at BQIC and do so before next Monday. TransOhio supports the dismissal of all charges against the Black Pride 4.
Tuesday evening on Nov 7th from 6-8 PM, TransOhio in conjunction with its community partner Equitas Health will again hold its 24th Free Legal Clinic for Name and Gender Marker Changes at Capital Law School – 303 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43215. Walk -ins welcome but you can pre-register by calling (614) 340-6744. Financial assistance to complete this process is available through TransOhio. Free Pizza and beverages available. To date, TransOhio has awarded $27,000.00 in financial assistance around the state to hundreds of members of our community to complete this process.
Sunday, November 12th BQIC will hold a town hall meeting at the United Methodist Church, 501 E. Broad St. Columbus to build a Community Pride in 2018. (Back to our Roots). The event will take place from 2-4:30 PM and this is your chance to discuss and give input on what you want and don’t want to see in this Community Pride. Light refreshments available.
Friday, November 17th – OCTOPUS LLC will be holding a Transgender and Non-Binary Recognition Night for People of Color from 6:30- 8:30 PM at Summit on 16th UMC (82 East 16th, Columbus, OH)
Monday, November 20th – TransOhio will be hosting the Columbus Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) in a ceremony at King Avenue United Methodist Church. Gathering will start at 6:00 PM with the program beginning thereafter. Child Care available and light snacks and refreshments available after the ceremony to honor those in our community who have been killed in acts of violence since our last gathering in 2016.
Additional TDOR events are being held around the state of Ohio as well around this date.

Thanksgiving starts the holiday season and TransOhio realizes that many times in our community, people are alone or isolated during the holidays by relatives, so we are happy to once again sponsor a holiday party where all are welcome!
TransOhio’s Holiday party is Saturday, December 9th @ 7;00 PM at Club Diversity. Food provided! You are however on your own for beverages. See you there for some fun and community.
After the holidays it is time to get your proposals together for workshops at the TENTH Anniversary of the TransOhio Transgender and Ally Symposium to be held at OSU Union on April 27-29, 2018! Registration for the event will commence in February. Workshop proposals are DUE before mid-February!
